TBT: Inauguration of the Casposo gold mine ⛰⛏ in San Juan, Argentina in 2011

It was a brilliant sunny day. Dad and I drove from Mendoza to San Juan super early. Troy (ASX listed) had organised buses to take us up to the project so we parked at the designated meeting point and got on one of the buses. After a short ride we arrived at the mine’s camp where a stage had been set up; San Juan’s governor, Jose Luis Gioja, the then mining minister and many authorities where spread out on stage and guests filled the space under it. After a few speeches and many photos we drove back to Calingasta where a large tent had been set up and heaps of food and drinks 🥤 were waiting for the crowd. What a wonderful day. It’s not very often that you get to participate from such an event.

The Casposo mine is a low-sulphidation epithermal deposit of gold and silver located 10km NW of the township of Calingasta, in the Calingasta department, San Juan Province.

Years later, the mine was acquired by dual listed (ASX/TSX) Austral Gold. The mine produced 529koz of Au Eq until it was placed in care & maintenance in 2019.

Hopefully there’s a second life coming to the mine!

That’s it for today.
