10 Awesome (and Cheap) Tools Every Mining Investor Needs

(updated Dec 2024)

1. Research aid: Airtable

An easy-to-use relational database to gather relevant data and then dive deeper into it to derive powerful insights.

I’m obsessed with Airtable – use it every single day.

2. Tax reporting: Sharesight

Such a brilliant product.

Keep your portfolio organised, and properly report dividends and trades.

Would not invest without it!

3. Sentiment 1: Google Trends

You can monitor terms of particular interest and see how they shift around, including breakout terms.

For instance in the link below you’ll find a comparison of:

  • lithium stocks
  • mining stocks
  • copper stocks

You can bookmark the page to compare whenever you want.

4. Technical Analysis: TradingView

TradingView is where I do all my TA. Like so many investors, from newbies to experienced.

So many different tools, views and ways to track.

My favourite feature? Adding a tweet to a chart!

5. Your personal research intern: ChatGPT/Gemini

Ask and (the answers) will come.

I go in-depth on a few use cases here

6. Sentiment 2: StockTwits

I’ve only started using it but like it so far. The coolest feature is it tells you whether a stock is up/down from the time of a post. Humbling!

Caveat is support for non-US-listed is a bit clunky.

7. Annotate directly on web: Spade

This nifty tool lets you highlight directly on a website, and then print your notes as a pdf or leave them for later use.

I use it for news and reports.

Free, available for Chrome only

8. Investing.com

Decent charts for technical analysis plus financials and more. Best features are you can download historical information, get alerts for 52-week lows and economic calendar events from various countries.

9. Track your trades: Tradezella

This one I just heard about. Given we already built our system on top of Airtable probably a bit too much, but I might take a look.

If you trade a lot, this could be helpful.

10. Sentiment 3: X (Twitter!)

This to me is the best place to discuss ideas and learn. Great to save bookmarks into folders for future review.

(If you really don’t want a blue check you can turn it off too)

$8/mo and up, free tier of course

Other platforms: Hotcopper or CEO.CA

And that’s it for today!

If any of these sound intriguing, take them for a spin and let me know how it goes.

Note: Prices are in USD unless noted, and may change a bit depending on your location.
